Maharashtrian amti is really comfort food. You can have it with rice, with chapatti or you can just sip it like soup. It has sweet taste along bit sourness. This is a flavorful and delicious yet comfort food. Let’s make Maharashtrian amti.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Cumin seeds
  • A pinch Asafetida
  • Curry leaves
  • Finely chopped Tomato
  • 1 tbsp Goda masala
  • Red chili powder
  • 2 tbsp Grated fresh Coconut
  • 2 cups cooked Tur dal
  • Water
  • 3~4 Kokum petals
  • Jaggery
  • Salt to taste
  • Finely chopped Coriander leaves

Method

  1. Heat up oil in a pan. When oil is enough hot, add mustard.
  2. When mustard pops up, add cumin seeds let them also sizzle up.
  3. Add asafetida, curry leaves and tomato.
  4. Fry the tomato for about 2 minutes. No need to cook them.
  5. Add goda masala, red chili powder and grated fresh coconut. Fry for about a minute.
  6. Add cooked dal and water. Mix well.
  7. Add kokum petals. You can add tamarind if you want.
  8. Add jaggery and salt to taste.
  9. Boil on medium heat for about 5-7 minutes.
  10. Add finely chopped coriander. Amti is already.
  11. Amti goes well with rice and lots of ghee.
